Our History
February 2002, six local nurses from Charlotte attended the North Carolina Baptist Nursing Fellowship and learned the North Carolina Baptist Men's Dental Bus was available to provide dental care to a extremely large, under-served population in Mecklenburg County. After eight and one-half years of using the dental bus, a local oral surgeon who had been volunteering each month, retired and donated his entire office equipment to the ministry. The search began to find a permanent free-standing dental facility. One was found on the campus of New Hope Baptist Church in Charlotte. After two and one half years of renovation, Agape Dental Ministry opened its doors for patient care May 6, 2013. SInce then the need has become greater than anyone could have ever anticipated. Volunteers have always been available to meet the needs of the patients. Although at times financially we have been very close to being unable to cover our expenses, donations have been sufficient to cover the necessities. Spiritually, the blessings continue to encourage the volunteers and patients.
